In 2014, after my abuela’s passing, I decided to move to New York City from Lynn, Massachusetts. I was in search of freedom. The freedom to create art, to feel independent. I knew I wanted to freelance so I could still make time to work on my art whenever I pleased. A year in, I was met with the difficulties and challenges that this city tends to throw at you. I found myself constantly fighting the rapid changes of both New York and life online. While I can’t stop change, I can persevere through it. Social media has altered the landscape of how one can exist here. In response I choose to go against the wave and establish my own flow. I present this body of work to focus on the undeniable energy that drives me to stay present and stay connected with everyone I’ve met over the last decade. This presentation is a thank you to all my friends, colleagues, community, and of course, family for helping me complete 10 years of New York City.
