* I just wanted to thank everyone for their beautiful tributes and kind comments for Father Gretzky. His passing has deeply touched all Canadians. Some legacies were built by landing on the moon, climbing Everest, others winning gold medals or groundbreaking invention- this legacy was built on being Canada’s most beloved hockey dad. One of kindness, one of being a parent, one of being an average hardworking Canadian who cared.
So many have shared their candid stories of Mr. Walter Gretzky, who always took the time to say hello, took pictures with fans, and donated autographed swag from his legendary son Wayne Gretzky for a variety of charities. The love he had for the game of Hockey, for his community of Brantford (Ontario) and for Canada.
The early pictures of him with his then child Wayne are so endearing, reminds us all of those drives and drop offs to our kids practice, how proud we are when we see them in action growing with each passing day.
Just goes to show how powerful “average” can be. Being kind, hard working and compassionate to your family and friends is being a superhero. It’s achieving greatness.
And no one exemplified that better than Mr. Walter Gretzky.
