Launch Date & Designer:

Open with the fact it first carried passengers on August 8, 1916, and was designed by the renowned Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo .

Legacy Status:
Highlight that it's one of the world’s oldest aerial cable cars still in operation.

Suspension & Structure:
The car hangs from six interlocking steel cables, spanning 1770 ft (≈540 m) across the Niagara Gorge, hovering around 200 ft (61 m) above the rapids .

Capacity & Duration:
Holds up to 35 standing passengers, completes the one‑kilometer round trip in about 10 minutes, with around 21 trips daily during season .

Motor & Power Backup:
Powered by a 50 hp electric motor (~37 kW), with a diesel backup to return the car in case of power failure .


3. Crossing Borders & Scenic Views

Unique Cross-Border Trip:
Although both terminals are on the Canadian shore, the route crosses into U.S. territory four times due to the river’s bend—yet no passport required .

Season & Hours: Operates seasonally from March to/April through November, approximately 10 am–5 pm .

Admission & Tickets: Standard fare is about CAD 20 adults / CAD 13 children; tickets can be timed or open.

Not wheelchair friendly .

Getting There: Located at 3850 Niagara Parkway, free on-site parking, and served by the WEGO bus system .
