Addition Chart 3 Montessori Mathematic Lesson

Prerequisite:
Addition Strip Board
Control Chart 1 and 2
Direct Purpose:
To help the child memorize addition facts
Age:
5 1/2, 6

Material:
A container with all the addition problems of Chart 3
A tray with a protector, a piece of paper , a pencil and a pencil holder
Addition Control Chart 1
Note:
The container has to have all of the combination not only the essential combinations

Presentation:
Invite a child
Introduce the activity and the material
Show the child how to carry the board (addition work 3) as a tray with the box on top
The guide brings the writing tray with pencil holder, pencil, grid paper, a protector
Go to the table and sit down
Show the child that the blue number on the top and say: this is the first addend
Point to the red numbers and say: this is the second addend
Point to the numbers in white squares and say: here we are going to find the sum
Open the box of equation
Take one equation from the box
Invite the child to read the equation and write it on the paper 5+2= 7
Read the first addend on the paper
Put your left finger in the blue square of 5 then
Read the second addend 2
Put the right hand finger to number 2 red square
Tell the child the sum of equation is where both our fingers meet
You slide one finger down and the move the other one until they meet
When they meet, say: this is the sum
Invite the child to write the sum on the paper
Place the equation card inside the lid of the box
Invite the child to repeat as many times as he wants
After you do it 2 or 3 times, invite the child to do it
When he child finish the whole paper
Invite him to check his work with control chart number 1

Note:
This exercise can be done with two children after they have worked individually. One can write the equation while the other can slide his fingers to find the sum
