In Episode 027 of Mindset on Resilience, we’re joined by Bennie Williams, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Multicultural Student Center at Canisius University. He shares his education journey, starting in his hometown of Buffalo at his alma mater, Canisius University, a place known for cultivating leaders. Bennie originally aspired to be a lawyer, but fell in love with education and later pursued a career in higher education.

At just 23, Bennie became a director at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, a role that challenged him to grow both personally and professionally. Surrounded by more experienced colleagues, he sometimes questioned his place but sought out mentors who helped him recognize his potential and contributions. He believes that being invited into a space means you belong there and encourages others to seize such opportunities for growth and development.

Eventually, Bennie returned to Buffalo, fulfilling his dream of working at his beloved alma mater Canisius University. Now, as a leader he reflects on the honor of building upon the legacy of those who came before him who advocated for marginalized groups. His dedication and impact have earned him the recognition of College Administrator of the Year.
