We visited the Inyo Geological National Park and enjoyed a cozy picnic of tamarind rice, yogurt rice, kettle chips, and lemon pickle while soaking in the beauty of God’s creation. ✨

Driving in 3 vehicles with close family and friends made it even more unforgettable. A memory to treasure for a lifetime! ❤️

The hot springs near Mammoth Lakes are part of the Long Valley Caldera, one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world.

Formed 760,000 years ago after a massive volcanic eruption, the area still has active geothermal activity, which heats the underground water and brings it up as natural hot springs.

The surrounding snow-capped mountains belong to the Eastern Sierra Nevada, created by powerful tectonic uplift over millions of years.

The contrast of freezing winter air and steaming geothermal pools makes this region one of the most

Short History

The Long Valley Caldera region was home to the Paiute tribes, who used the natural hot waters for healing and warmth.

In the 1800s, explorers and settlers discovered these geothermal features while mining in the Eastern Sierra.

Today, Inyo National Forest protects this fragile thermal landform, allowing visitors to safely enjoy the rare combination of ancient volcanoes + modern hot springs + winter mountains.
