About This Video
In This Video Er. Vijish Shinde, Explaining about Types of Drawing used in Building Construction

Engineering drawing is the common language of engineers across the globe. Engineering drawing provides the required knowledge and process of creating drawings for any engineering or architectural application. Engineering drawings drawn in a logical way following the standards and format help an efficient way to communicate the design information. Engineering drawing describes a specific component in a way that the viewer of the drawing understands without misinterpretation. Drawings prepared by engineers in one country must be read and understood by the engineers from any other country irrespective of the language spoken. Hence engineering drawing is called the universal language of engineers.
Various Types of Engineering Drawings used in AEC Industries In AEC(Architecture, Engineering and Construction)sector, engineering drawings are widely used for various purposes. The architectural drafters rely on knowledge of building materials, codes, construction methods and engineering practices.
They work from specifications, sketches and rough drafts. Architectural drafters specialize in building types, such as residential or commercial, or in construction material, such as reinforced concrete, masonry, steel, timber and so on.
The civil drafters create drawings, relief maps, plot maps and charts showing profiles and cross sections, used in major construction or civil engineering projects such as buildings, bridges, highways, retaining walls, tunnels, and so on. Civil drafters prepare detailed drawings of structures and installations, such as roads, tunnels, freshwater supplies,sewage-disposal systems, docks, and breakwaters.
Followings are the various types of drawings used in AEC sector to assist the construction.
1. SITE PLAN - A Site Plan is used for marking out the mapped overview of the entire property where the proposed development or building occurs. It is used to show the location of the buildings in relation to their surroundings and also to show the Roads, Footpaths and other topographic & landscaping utilities. The recommended scales for site plan are 1:500 or 1:200.
2. FLOOR PLAN - A floor plan usually shows the layout of rooms, key dimensions, levels, and materials and locations of fittings & appliances using conventions and symbols. The recommended scales for floor plan are 1:100 & 1:50.
3. ELEVATION PLAN - Elevation plans are used to show all the four sides of the building with level datum & floor positions.
4. SECTION DRAWINGS - A section is a vertical slice through a building with one half removed, to show the inside view if the structure basically materials.
5. STRUCTURAL WORKING DRAWINGS - Structural working drawings are used to show the dimensions & graphical information that can be used to fabricate components of the work, to assemble, or to install components. it may includes the various drawing types such as Beam, column, slab, footing, lintel & staircase & many more.
6. CONSTRUCTIONAL WORKING DRAWINGS - Constructional working drawings are used to layout & show the dimensions & graphical information that can be used to fabricate components of the work, to assemble, or to install components. it may includes the various drawing types such as Excavation plan, centreline column layout plan, ground beam or plinth beam grid plan, lintel beam grid plan, slab beam grid plan & many more
7. ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS - Electrical drawings represent the details of electrical fixtures, location of switches, fans, lights & AC, MCB, UPS points. It also defines the wiring path, tapping for electricity etc.
8. PLUMBING DRAWINGS - Plumbing drawings shows the details of sanitary, pipes for water supply, pipes for sewerage, fixtures and path of pipes from the entry to the exit.
9. FINISHING DRAWINGS - Finishing Drawings is used to show the finish type of every component of the building such as flooring pattern, painting color, false ceiling shape, plastering texture & elevation design.
10. PERSPECTIVE VIEWS - Perspective Drawings are used to show maximum no of views of any building by showing in three dimensions. It gives us realistic appearance of what a building looks likes in reality.
