Cardboard Molding Tutorial

Supplies
Pieces of cardboard
Bowl or sink
Rubber Bands
Scissors

Steps
1. Cut or tear cardboard into smaller pieces so you can fit them in the water
2. Let it soak while you find an object to make a caste of (square or round objects work well,
things made out of plastic or wood, not anything furry, we made blocks out of Duplo Legos
or made them of toy dinosaurs)

3. Separate the layers of cardboard
4. Drape the cardboard over your object, use elastics to hold it in place
5. Let it dry (overnight or in a few hours on a hot dry day)
6. Take elastics off
7. Paint it with acrylic or tempera paint before you take it off the object
8. Take it off, and out it back together, use tape if you have a lot of pieces to attach together

Adaptions
Use a ball or other simple shape
Only use one large piece of cardboard over the object

Extensions
Make a larger cardboard sculpture
Display the sculpture
Talk about the bronze casting method
