LiDAR scanning helps create a 3D replica of the heritage structure that can be used by the heritage departments, archaeological departments, and the AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) practitioners.

The 3D BIM model created with laser scanning helps in the maintenance, conservation and preservation, restoration, renovation, readiness for modern dwelling, public engagement, and recreating the structure with 3D prints from the 3D model in case of damage to any part of the structure.

Marvel Geospatial undertook Scan-to-BIM modelling of the famous British Residency in Hyderabad through LiDAR scanning. A BIM model with an LOD 300 (Level of Detail) was created using a combination of Kaarta Contour scanner for indoors, Kaarta Stencil for outdoors, and still photographs through a digital camera.

The LOD 300 provided accurate geometry and features that can be used in the construction stage at any time.
