Bodegas Cepa 21 is the new ambitious project headed by the Moro family, the owners of Bodegas Emilio Moro, one of the most emblematic wineries in the Ribera del Duero. The aim of this project has been to build a modern, functional, minimalist new winery drawing on the savoir faire acquired over the years by several generations of the Moro family in the making of modern-style wines. The winery, which nestles in the middle of fifty hectares (around 124 acres) of its own Tinto Fino vines (the purest Tempranillo clone), is modern and equipped to bring out the very best of one of the finest varietals in the world.

This new wine, Cepa 21, is aimed at consumers who have the expertise and open-mindedness to discover new tasting characteristics and who also appreciate the subtlety and elegance of a wine that is soft and sweet on the palate with bold aromatics.

Tasting Note: This plush, modern red delivers sweet flavors of blackberry and fig compote with spicy accents of vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood. Round and juicy, with fine tannins and lively acidity. Drink now through 2017. (91 points)

Petite Sirah is native to Southern Rhone region of France, where is it commonly known as "Durif." Although its home is in France, the Petite Sirah grape is hardly grown there anymore, however it has found a new home in warm California. Winemakers and consumers alike celebrate its fruit intensity and robust mouth feel.

This wine is a winner. It is immense, it will take no hostages, it will sooth, it will please, and in the end you will be pouring out your other wines because they just don't satisfy you anymore...you will never want to drink anything but (this) Petite Sirah again!

Tasting Note: Very dry and tannic, as Petite Sirah should be. But unlike many "Pets," it's also balanced and elegant. The official alcohol is only 13.5%, yet there's not a trace of greenness. In fact, the wine, which has plenty of French oak, is quite rich in blackberry and black currant flavors. Really a superb example, a Petite Sirah for Cabernet fans. Should evolve interestingly for many years. Editors' Choice (94 points!).
