Today we will step to the poor cuts of stainless steel, the same we will explain one by one in pictures. Before get into the main chapter, please don’t forget to subscribe to this channel, and give me your “Like”, it will be a gift for me, thank you for your support.

The first picture, we can see there are striped slags at the bottom. The reasons for this issue could be 1-focus position is set too high, we need reset the focus parameter and cut again. Normally, the focus position for cutting stainless steel is negative, a video up here tells the details of focus positions in fiber laser cutting; 2-pressure is set too low, please try to adjust higher the pressure appropriately and cut again.

Next picture, there are clear layers on cut section, the bottom layer is a little whitish. The poor cut could be caused 1-focus position is set too high, we need to lower down the focus position and cut again; 2-nozzle height is set a little lower, so we should raise the height and make a try in cutting; 3-pressure is set too high, please try to adjust less the pressure appropriately and cut again.

There is clear burnt layer at the bottom, it is probably caused by higher focus position, so we should lower down the focus position approximately and try to cut again.

Next picture, we can see there are droplet-like tiny burrs on the bottom, the reasons caused such problem are 1-cutting speed is faster, it is better to slow down a little; 2-focus position is set a little lower, so we need to raise focus position.

The picture shows there are slags at corners, it may be caused by higher focus position, so it will get better if we lower down a little the focus position.

The picture, we can see the cutting gaps are wider, it is probably caused by the contaminated or damaged protective lens, so we should replace the protective lens and try to cut again.

Next picture shows a rough cut section, and blue light is emitted from the cutting seam during the process. The reasons could be 1-focus position is set a little lower, so we need to raise focus position; 2-cutting speed is faster, it is better to slow down a little; 3-the start point is not set very well, so we can get a slow start point or use a round hole at the start point of the leading line.

Next picture shows the half good half poor. If we have such cuts, it could be 1-the nozzle is not round enough or there are particles inside the nozzle, so it is better to check the nozzle or just replace one; 2-the protective lens is not clean any more, we need to take it out and inspect whether there is water, oil, waste or spots on it. If it is contaminated, clean or replace it. More details on the protective lenses, please check the video up here. 3: laser beam is offset from the very center, so we need to take steps to adjust the laser center. The video up here will show the basic steps to find the center.

Let’s see this picture, there is yellow color shown inn the cut section. If we meet such condition, probably the nitrogen gas is not pure enough or there is oxygen or air in the hose. So we need to check the nitrogen purity, is it 99.99%? Check whether there is leakage places in gas hoses and the parameters setting of gas delay in “Layer”.

Cutting aluminum alloy and brass is the same as that of stainless steel, and the problems generated in the cutting are also similar; the difference is that due to the high reflectivity of aluminum alloy and brass, when the thickness is the same as that of stainless steel, other parameters are similar, as long as appropriately to reduce cutting speed and lead-in line speed. When cutting brass ≥3mm, it is recommended to use oxygen as the auxiliary gas.

Several friends really sent a cut picture to me and just say “Hi, the cut is poor, why?”. First my name is Clara, and they did not tell me anything about their machines, the power, the nozzle, the focus, the parameters, how could I tell them “Why”. Here I would like to make myself clear, no offense. If you have a poor cut and don’t know why, you can consult with the supplier, click the video up here, it is a basic step to run the check. Or please go through the two videos, it shows the common poor cut examples. But if you have checked all possible reasons and still can not figure out why. Please including as much information as you can, like the machine power, metal thickness, parameters setting, gas and other necessary factors if you need me to run a customized check on the specific poor cut. You can find my contact information below in the description.
