THERE wasn't a dry eye in the house as the best of the borough were honoured at the Pride of South Tyneside Awards last night.

The event, in its 10th year, celebrates the most caring, brave and talented people in our community.

As champagne flowed at the ceremony at Temple Park Centre in John Reid Road, South Shields, celebrity guests, including X Factor stars Joe McElderry and Jade Thirlwall, were among those toasting the borough's unsung heroes.

The annual awards are organised by the Gazette in partnership with the Customs House and South Tyneside Council.
