1987 Savalalo Makeki (Market)

WARNING - This post may cause some nostalgic emotions for many.

When I was growing up in Samoa, my mum who is from Saleufi used to tell me stories of the Savalalo market back in her day and how you could literally just jump into the ocean right outside its doors lol I couldn't really picture it in my head because I was used to seeing the bus depot and sea wall as a kid (the road and current bus station you see today are all on reclaimed area which used to be the ocean).

But seeing some old footage from the 50s and now this video has made more sense to what she meant. Such a beautiful video capturing these images of how life was in Apia at that point in time. Samoa also celebrated its 25th Silver Jubilee that year as well. And man, stuff was cheap as lol (as things were around the globe at that time haha). Fia maua lava se niu 55sene 😂😂😂
