Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS), Saifai: An Overview

Establishment and Background

The Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS) in Saifai was established in 2016 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. This establishment resulted from reconstituting the Uttar Pradesh Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (UPRIMS&R), which had been founded in 2005. UPUMS was created by Act No. 15 of 2016 of the Uttar Pradesh state legislature, and the formal notification for its establishment was issued under Notification No. 742(2)/LXXIX-V-1-16-1(ka)-7-2015 dated May 17, 2016. According to the Uttar Pradesh Extraordinary Gazette dated May 17, 2016, UPUMS comprises five faculties: Medicine, Dental Sciences, Paramedical Sciences, Nursing, and Pharmacy. The university is recognized as a State University under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

UPUMS offers a wide range of academic programs across its five faculties. These programs are designed to provide comprehensive education and training in various medical and allied health fields.

Faculty of Medicine:
M.Ch. program
M.D. and M.S. programs with a total of 106 seats.
Faculty of Dental Sciences:
M.D.S. in Periodontology with 3 seats.
Faculty of Paramedical Sciences:
M.P.T. (Master of Physiotherapy) with 12 seats.
M. Optometry with 6 seats.
M.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) with 6 seats.
M.Sc. in Radiological Imaging Technology (MRIT) with 6 seats.
Faculty of Pharmacy:
M. Pharm. program with 24 seats.
Faculty of Nursing:
M.Sc. Nursing with 15 seats (approved and to be started soon).

Medicine:
M.B.B.S. program with 200 seats.
Paramedical Sciences:
B.P.T. (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) with 60 seats.
B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) with 60 seats.
B. Optometry with 60 seats.
B.Sc. in Radiological Imaging Technology (MRIT) with 60 seats.
-Nursing:
B.Sc. Nursing with 60 seats.
Pharmacy:
B. Pharm. with 60 seats.
Diploma Programs:

The university also offers various diploma programs in Paramedical Sciences and Nursing. These programs are affiliated with the Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty, ensuring standardized education and training.

Infrastructure and Facilities

UPUMS boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a 1,600-bed tertiary care hospital. This hospital has a 150-bed Emergency, Trauma, and Burn Centre, ensuring comprehensive care for critical patients.

Recent and Upcoming Projects:

Super Speciality Hospital:

A newly inaugurated 528-bed super speciality hospital, expanding the university's capacity to provide specialized medical care.

Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital:

An upcoming project that will add a 300-bed facility dedicated to maternal and child health, enhancing the university's service offerings in this crucial area.
