A lot of people are taking multivitamins pill and maybe they don’t need them. Today, I am going to talk about one vitamin which is not very well known until recent research and studies have recognized its unique benefits and importance. It is called vitamin K2 which is part of the vitamin K family.

Vitamin K1, is critical for blood clotting and is found in leafy greens. On the other hand, Vitamin K2 supports bone and cardiovascular health by regulating calcium in the body and is found in animal products like cheese, yogurt, Egg yolks and salmon but in a small amount. While Vitamin K2 deficiency is rare, modern diets don’t have enough Vitamin K2.

In the bone, Vitamin K2 alongside calcium and vitamin D. they all help bind calcium to the bone matrix, strengthening bones and reducing the risk of fractures. Studies suggested that vitamin K2 supplementation is beneficial for patients at risk of osteoporosis.

Also, for the teeth, studies were found that it will help prevent tooth decay and promote healthy teeth.

For the heart vitamin K2 helps prevent calcium from accumulating and depositing in the arteries. This process can lead to atherosclerosis which is hardening of the arteries. So, by directing calcium to the bones where it’s mostly needed, vitamin K2 might reduce the risk of heart disease.

So, the question now is who needs to take this vitamin K2 supplement?
It is recommended that this supplement might be beneficial for older adults. Also, men or women with osteoporosis or osteopenia which is the state between normal and osteoporosis and even people at risk for osteoporosis. Another group are patients with cardiovascular diseases. And finally, individuals who are vegetarians or vegans.
