I know these videos use different ways of engaging students. Normally I would never do this, but for this assignment I wanted to try using different kinds of strategies to engage students in the content without doing all three videos, all three different ways. Typically, in a series or even for a company/person, you want to keep videos similar in how they are set up so they get a “brand”. For these videos, I used a great deal of suggestions for video tutorials found in Morain and Swarts (2012) to try my hand at learning something new and better:
• Focus through callouts or cursor highlights
• Neither too fast, nor too slow
• Voice over gave attention to specific detail
• Well organized on process
• Audibly announcing steps before visually making them
• Accurate in fact and execution
• Small amount of errors, that are corrected
• Introductions to the person
• Objectives clearly stated and met
• Explanation of next steps
• Focus on content and must know
• No excess mouse movements
• Confidence of narrator
• Scripted and well rehearsed narrator
• Narrator notes affiliation
• High quality video
• Promoted self-efficacy of the user throughout
• Fulfilled expectations of viewers
The first video I did callouts and in person video, the second video I did cursor motion technology and a few callouts, and the third video I did a quiz.
