Hundreds of thousands of protesters, many of which were school students, decended on Melbourne as part of a Global Climate Strike on Friday the 20th of September, demanding the government take immediate action on climate change.
The climate action was part of a global strike, led by climate protester Greta Thunberg and saw protests in the 150 countries.

Around 2,500 businesses said they took part in the strike as well as universities also joining the strike.
The state government had given public servants the day off to join the strike.

Protesters called for immediate action to stop climate change, including demands for no new oil, gas or coal projects, 100% renewable energy by 2030.

The streets were flooded with protesters, with the central point of the rally at Treasury Gardens where speeches were given before the protest marched and looped around back to the gardens before coming to a close.
