Midnight Mass Chicory Oatmeal Stout

Big shout out to Nadine for giving these beers to Ray from ‪@TheAlconauts‬ and thank you Ray for bringing them to the 2024 Brewtubers Get Together! Midnight Mass Chicory Oatmeal Stout is brewed by Brimstone Brewing Company out of Ridgeway, Ontario Canada. Which must be somewhere near Niagara Falls. This may be the first beer I have ever scene with Chicory in it. My only experience with chicory previous to this was in coffee in New Orleans. The beer poured out a midnight black with a thin filmy head on the top. It smelled very odd and unfamiliar, but not in a bad way. I assume that is the chicory giving it that smell that I was unfamiliar with. It was kind of like a caramelized sugar, nutty, coffee roastyness. With a slight hint of chocolate. The smell was unique and inviting. The beer had a heavy thick body with some viscousness but finished a little watery making it easy to swallow. The 6.6% alcohol was not noticeable. The flavors were also unfamiliar to me. It was odd and interesting in a good way which once again I will attribute to the Chicory. There was some nuttyness, some charamalized sugar like flavor, hints of coffee, hints of chocolate, earthiness and some bitterness. However, the bitterness didn't taste like hop bitterness which makes me think its from the chicory. This was a very nice, interesting and complex beer. It was awesome to try a beer with an adjunct I have never seen in a beer before. Try this beer if you can. Thank you again Ray and Nadine!!
