Expert lecture on Understanding Covid-19 and Mucor Infection at Modi College
The Biotechnology Department of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organized an On-line expert lecture on the topic of ‘Understanding Covid-19 and Mucor Infection’ This lecture was organized to discuss the pathophysiology, etiology, various myths around this pandemic and to understand the scientific and technical methods to deal with it. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Arvind M. Deshmukh, President, Microbiologists Society, India.
College principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar while welcoming the esteemed speaker said that this second wave of Covid-19 has raised many questions and reservations about our scientific knowledge about dealing with the disease and death. He said that we need to bust the unscientific myths, superstitions and rumors around the pandemic and should equip ourselves with scientific thinking process. The speaker was formally introduced by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Dean, Life Sciences Department.
The topic was introduced by Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, head of Bio-Technology Department. He said that this pandemic is an opportunity for re-building our life systems and this lecture will be focused on some important concepts regarding this pandemic.
In his lecture Dr. Arvind M. Deshmukh discussed with help of various studies and data, the global scenario related with prevention and control of this pandemic. He elaborated that the predisposing causes of the deaths due to Covid-19 should be bring into public focus to reduce the panic and fear psychosis among masses. According to him the underlying causes of death are numerous and unscientific myths, wrong practices, high prevalence of life-style diseases and the inappropriate use of protective measures by public are complicating the situation He also discussed the black fungus and various mutants of Covid-19.
After the lecture a discussion was held with the speaker in which large numbers of students, teachers and general public participated
