COALPORT, Pa. -- A Cambria County man is in jail, facing felony charges after police said he tried to hire a family member to kill one of his employees. State police said the employee at the center of the case is openly gay, but they are not considering it a hate crime. Right now, they said they've charged a man for basically trying to hire a hit man to take care of a person he considered a problem employee. The old adage word gets around fast in a small town apparently doesn't apply to Coalport where there was an overall sense of shock Tuesday when people learned of the charges against Shane Krestar.Police said Krestar is the owner of Key Life Human Services, a company that provides residential help for mentally challenged clients.According to court documents one of Krestar's employees, who is openly gay, demanded a raise and a promotion and if she didn't get her way, documents said she was going to play the gay card.That's when state police said Krestar tried to solicit help from his uncle to get rid of her. Troopers said Krestar met with his uncle on four separate occasions, one time asking him to tamper with her car and in mid-October telling him. I want it done... I'll pay you anything. When Krestar kept asking, police said his uncle came forward and police filed charges. People 6 News talked with Tuesday said Krestar and his family always appeared to be good people, never caused any trouble and said they're shocked to hear the allegations against him. It's unclear if Key Life Human Services is still operating. Their doors were locked Tuesday. Krestar's bond is set at $200,000 but that could increase if state police in Clearfield County decide to file more charges.
