There are so many devoted Quake players in Australia, but very little in terms of competitive events for us to dedicate ourselves to. Perhaps the odd online Sunday night 4 Seasons Gaming duel tournament - just enough to have fun every couple of weeks (but no real prizes for winning other than bragging rights). Meanwhile North America and Europe run weekly duel cups and a few times a year big tournaments are announced. Geographically, we Australians drew the short straw. It's not financially viable to send our talented players internationally to compete, and playing in overseas events from home is a heavy disadvantage (200+ms) in any arena FPS.

We were all surprised when Australia was not included in QuakeCon's revised 2019 format. A yearly tournament where all of the world's top rated Quakers would test their skills against each other, and unfortunately our top players were not invited. We have a handful of extremely high level Quake players (namely dandaking, Steej, Python and ZenAku) who would be able to compete at the top tier. This made us want to organise something for ourselves. Call it spite, call it bitterness, call it resentment, however we looked at it we were burnt collectively. We knew what we had to do. We needed to organise a tournament for Australians, by Australians!
