Ford Kuga Facelift Brings Styling Tweaks, New
Engines, And More Tech

The refreshed Ford Kuga is ready to take on the compact SUV segment with its mid-cycle updates for 2024. While the overall shape carries over, there are some meaningful changes inside, under the hood, and with available technology.

Let's start with the cosmetic tweaks. The front fascia receives a revised grille design that's sleeker than before, along with new headlights that can be upgraded to fancy LED units with Ford's latest Dynamic Pixel tech. Around back, the taillights also have a fresh look, and the Kuga rides on new wheel designs covering sizes from 17 to 20 inches.

More significant updates happen beneath the skin. The turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder carries over as the base engine, producing 147 horsepower sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. But Ford revamps the Kuga's electrified options, introducing three new 2.5-liter hybrid four-cylinder powertrains.

The first is a conventional gas-electric hybrid making 177 hp, while the second hybrid bumps output to 180 hp and adds all-wheel drive. Finally, a plug-in hybrid variant tops the range at 239 hp, able to travel up to an estimated 43 miles on electric power before the gas engine is required. Ford says the PHEV has a total range of over 600 miles when you factor in the combustion engine.

Inside, the highlight is Ford's latest Sync 4 infotainment system running via a crisp 13.2-inch touchscreen. Sync 4 has over-the-air update capability, built-in cloud navigation, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto among other functions. The available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is another nifty tech feature.

For those who tow, Ford includes some smart trailering assistance built into Sync that can check trailer connections and plan routes avoiding tight turns or low bridges. Speaking of utility, the Kuga's sliding second row can optimize legroom or cargo space as needed.

On the safety front, Ford fits its latest adaptive cruise control and automated emergency braking systems. There's also a new 360-degree camera system to help with low-speed maneuvering.

Expect pricing close to the outgoing Kuga range that starts around $33,000.

With fresh styling, more powertrain choices including a PHEV model, and loads of new tech and driver assists, the revised 2024 Ford Kuga appears poised to take on key rivals like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
