Mr Woods Teaches | Middle School Math Survival Guide | Least Common Multiple #maths #math
Middle school math is a pivotal period that will determine how successful a student will be at high school math. When a student begins the 6th-grade, they must have a foundation of basic number sense, algebra and functions, measurement and geometry, and statistics.
If you are still using manipulatives, the box method for multiplication, or do not know your multiplication tables from 0-12 or better 0-15, you will struggle in middle school math. First, the pace increases. While I volunteered in an eighth-grade math class the students that were able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide quickly and precisely were able to keep up the pace and form a deep understanding of what was being taught. If you cannot keep pace the learning gap will widen.
If you need a refresher on elementary school mathematics, please watch the following playlists on my other channel: Number Sense - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn... Fractions - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn... End of Year 5th-Grade Math - • 5th Grade - end of Year .
Reading comprehension is vital in math, especially as you move up through the grades. If you struggle with reading, ask your teacher about reading intervention at your school. I have a personal anecdote about this, my daughter was a struggling reader when she entered 6th-grade. She received help at school and in an after-school program. When her reading comprehension improved, her math improved.
Last, if you are not able to read your math notes, work on printing. Practice writing with the intention that someone else must be able to read your notes. Keep your notes for reference.
Thank you for watching Mr Woods Teaches videos and remember, to be a math person all you have to be is a person that does math.
