The Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural wonders of the world — and it is in danger.

On Heron Island this week I saw both the damage of coral bleaching from marine heatwaves, as well as the signs of recovery and regeneration.

But the science is clear. As our ocean temperatures continue to rise the Reef, and the people and animals that rely on it, will not be able to bounce back every time.

That is why the Greens are fighting to end new coal and gas projects. We have a plan to give fossil fuel workers a clear pathway into secure jobs in clean industries, and to ensure regional communities like Gladstone enjoy the benefits of both a healthy economy and a healthy environment.

Ecosystems like this are just too precious to lose. Together, through collective political action, we can protect it and build a safe climate future.
