A comment by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte last December turned the spotlight at the issue of domestic worker abuse in the country. During a speech, Duterte admitted to sexually assaulting his maid when he was a teenager. The comment drew criticism from rights groups. Despite a law to protect the nearly two million domestic workers in the Philippines, sexual abuse appears to be widespread, with the victims often choosing to remain silent, a Philippine women's rights lawyer says.
