American Wrestlers are an indie rock band fronted by the UK influence of songwriter Gary McClure. His former band, Working for a Nuclear Free City, broke up at the end of 2012 and McClure promptly began recording solo. He recruited his wife, Bridgette Imperial, to play keys and guitar, and added a bass player and drummer to form the current lineup. American Wrestlers signals a slight shift in style, incorporating the “nu-gaze” of his former band with psychedelic folk songwriting and massive, anthemic choruses. The lo-fi aesthetic of their recordings is overhauled on stage by waves of distorted rock and shape-shifting song construction.
