Описание к видео Portsmouth’s Deep WW2 Fuel Tunnels ABANDONED 30 Years! (re-upload)

Join us as we descend down into a vast tunnel network beneath the chalk cliffs of Portsdown Hill. In the 1930’s, a vast secret underground storage facility was
dug deep inside Portsdown Hill by the Sir Robert McAlpine’s
construction company. The bunker was designed to provide a bombproof fuel oil
reservoir to serve the fleet at the Portsmouth Naval Base.
The oil was needed as a guaranteed supply for Royal Naval
warships in case oil deliveries to western British seaports
were blockaded by the German Navy during World War II.

The Fuel Bunker had an official capacity of 180,000 tons
of furnace fuel oil across 9 storage tanks each 36ft high. The bunker sits 120ft below ground,
and consists of 2 Miles of tunneling. The walls of the bunker are made of concrete 12in thick,
and in some places the roof is a staggering 22ft thick. At
the time, no German bomb produced during WW2 was
capable of this level of penetration. it was Decommissioned in the 1990’s And now sits in a derelict state. Join us Inside!

NOTE: This is a re-upload of the original video (which was taken down) however, has an updated intro and title. After the main explore, stick around as I have added in a couple of update clips on what the bunker looks like today. Please note this was originally filmed in 2020, and photo and editing quality does not reflect channel standards as of today.
