Xiaomi phones with stock Android are a rare breed. Remember the “A” series? The Mi A1 of 2017 was the company’s first phone with stock Android since it came under the Android One program. Xiaomi continued this series for the next couple of years as we got the Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite, and the Mi A3. In 2019, along with Mi A3, we also got the Redmi Go which was an entry-level phone with Android Go.
Well, on the 6th of September, we are getting Redmi A1 which is a new phone under a new series, and this series is going to include phones with a clean Android experience instead of Xiaomi’s MIUI. The Redmi A1 is not a budget or mid-range phone but rather an entry-level phone that will be priced well under ₹10,000.
Design-wise, it does not look that bad. There is a polycarbonate build with the back panel having a leather texture. There are two cameras on the rear and a waterdrop notch on the front. The phone also has a noticeable bottom chin. We don’t see any fingerprint scanner on the rear or on the side, so it means the phone does not have a fingerprint scanner at all. Again, it is an entry-level device, so we can expect some features to be missing.
We also know some major specifications of this phone, thanks to @heyitsyogesh. The phone features a 6.5-inch display, and it is a TFT-IPS LCD with 720p resolution. Under the hood, the phone has a MediaTek Helio A22 chipset. This is a chip more than four years old and has a quad-core CPU. The phone has 2GB RAM with 32GB storage.
The dual camera setup includes an 8MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera. For selfies, there is a 5MP sensor. Finally, Redmi A1 has a 5,000mAh battery, and it supports 10W charging.
The phone runs on Android 12 Go Edition, which is a lightweight version of Android 12 for phones with less RAM and processing power.
We do not know the pricing yet but looking at the specifications, expect the price to be around ₹6000-7000.
