How Do I Convert from SSDI to Social Security?

Are you wondering how to convert from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) to Social Security retirement benefits?

The answer is straightforward: You don’t need to take any action. SSDI payments automatically convert to retirement benefits once you reach full retirement age. The benefit amount will remain the same, but under a different category.

This transition also applies to spousal benefits received on a spouse's SSDI record; they remain unchanged when switching to retirement benefits.
