A couple of days ago, I got the opportunity to swap snare drums with the homie, JD Weaver.

I dropped off my 14” x 6.5” Copperphonic to him, and I have his 14” x 8” Copperphonic that you see in this video.

And with only having this thing for a couple of days, I could tell right away how much of a powerhouse this snare drum is.

Although, this thought didn’t come because of how deep the snare drum is.

This conclusion came because of the overall sound of this snare drum.

According to Ludwig, this drum is a “High Volume performance with complete focus and dark-low qualities”

I know this might sound arrogant, but I think they missed a quality that seems to be a part of every Copperphonic, the attack and brightness in its tone.

What’s so interesting about this factor is that naturally copper is a very soft metal. When you have a softer material being used for a shell the sound is going to move slower through it.

In this case, you have an almost in-your-face attack which is caused by the moving of sound traveling through a shell.

This idea would mean that when making this shell the one part tin to 4 parts copper had to be adjusted in some way.

It just comes to show there is more to a drum than just its depth.

What do you guys think? Is the depth the biggest factor in a snare drum sound? Or is it something else? Why or why not? Leave a comment. Let’s talk about it!

Stay creative, and have a great rest of the week. Love you, guys!! Okay. Byeeeee. 🥁🤓👊🏻❤️🙏🏻
