There are plenty of people who believe that No Touch Martial Arts work, yet for anyone who sees behind the myth of no touch martial arts, a question still remains: how does it really work? Is it all a show for personal gain? Do no touch masters really believe that it works? In this Martial Arts Explored video I will be taking an in-depth look at why no touch martial arts exist and work in a certain way.
Why No Touch Martial Arts Exist
If you are a regular viewer of the Martial Arts Journey channel, of course you know by now that no touch techniques is a part of the fantasy world. Yet the question still stays - why do so many people believe it exists? Do no touch masters actually believe it works themselves, or is it all just a show for money? Having been personally exposed to at least a few different practices and masters of no touch techniques, in this Martial Arts Journey video, I’ll be exploring in-depth what no touch martial arts are actually about and why do they exist to begin with.
When searching for any type of answers it is always a good start to look at what is the constant, a non-varying aspect which keeps on appearing in all different cases. This constant often times gives an insight on what is it that we are looking at, really based off. When typing No Touch Martial Arts into YouTube, there is no lack of different examples, yet in all of them you can find at least three different aspects which appear almost always. Those three aspects are the following - a high hypnotic susceptibility, relationship with Easter culture and conformity. To start breaking down no touch martial arts, let us look at the first constant - high hypnotic susceptibility.
While I am not about to make a claim that no touch martial artists are masters of hypnosis, watching the videos where they perform their techniques, it quickly becomes clear that people who fall, after their magical wave of hands, are usually people who basically “want to be thrown”. Every documented case where a no touch master faces a skeptic, not even once the results come into the favor of the no touch martial artist. While they make ludicrous excuses, such as that: “He held his tongue on the top of the mouth”, it is clear, that the real case of no touch techniques not working, is a lack of belief in it of the skeptic - and thus a low level of hypnotic susceptibility, which leads to the failure of the no touch martial arts, which worked quote on quote “very well”, on the willing students of the master. Yet considering this we are still left with at least two questions - how do the students come to a point where they are so receptive to this suggestive type of hypnosis, and whether the no touch master himself believes that he is capable of this quote on quote “magic”, or whether he uses this trick for his personal gain, such as students, money and following.
As we start to reach the second constant, in almost all no touch videos you see an influence of Eastern culture, and not without a good reason. We all grew up being exposed to various examples of mystics of the East, whether through hearing stories or seeing examples on television. Yogis who would dig themselves under the ground and spend days without air, kung fu masters who would pierce glass with needles using their supposed Chi and Japanese martial arts masters harnessing their Ki to perform supernatural feats. Interestingly, this side of mysticism is often times accepted as an existing norm in Eastern culture, and is rarely questioned, thus making some Easterners more susceptible to such practices as they face a no touch martial artist, or become one themselves. At the same time, many Westerners picked up this belief as well, whether by believing the stories or seeing an Eastern movie which presents these feats.
Believing in it, makes you believe that life is more than what you are used to, and when such a person meets a no touch master, he is more than ready to be thrown around without a touch - to affirm his beliefs of the supernatural. The belief in Eastern mysticism and the ongoing myth of it, makes it so much more likely that a person will be highly susceptible to this suggestive hypnosis, when the Eastern element is present, such as talks about Chi, Ki, Prana, Yogis or even as much as Eastern related clothing. Yet this is not yet where the Eastern culture’s influence to no touch martial arts ends, since there is one more constant left: conformity.
