Cooking with the Sun using Free Solar Energy. Minestrone Soup. Solar Brother SUNGOOD Oven.

In this video I am trying out a Solar Oven for the first time, using the power of the sun to cook a meal without the need for a stove or a fire.

I love the idea of using free renewable energy and so I was very excited to try out this ingenious product from the French solar company Solar Brother.

Solar Ovens take longer to cook that conventional methods, but by cooking softly and slowly, the valuable nutrients and flavours are not lost. You can set up this oven when you get to camp and leave it to do its thing while you get on with other tasks, knowing that when you are done, a tasty meal awaits. I can see this might be a great option if you live in an area where there are regular fire bans or you are not able to find fuel or if you want to keep a low profile and avoid attention from your fire’s smoke. As an emergency back-up cooking system or simply to take to the beach or on a picnic.

I chose challenging conditions to try out my oven - in winter with low sun, cold temperatures and a strong wind blowing across the flat marshes where I was - a tough test for its capabilities, but I was still impressed - next time I'll try in full sun in the middle of summer where I'm sure the results will be even more impressive.
