Day 1: Kashyem, Kalimpong – Where the Journey Begins

We kicked off our adventure from the peaceful village of Kashyem in the hills of Kalimpong, wind in our hair and scenic highways laid out ahead. Early morning clouds hugged the mountains as we descended toward the plains, crossing vibrant tea gardens and countless roadside chai stalls. This transition from misty mountains to sun-drenched valleys felt like witnessing two worlds within one journey. And reached Guwahati.

🐘 Day 2: Wild Encounters at Kaziranga National Park

After cruising through lush green expanses, we reached Kaziranga National Park — the sanctuary of the Indian one-horned rhino. And just a stone’s throw from the park entrance, we checked in to Aranya Tourist Lodge, a government-run lodge that turned out to be one of the trip’s hidden gems.

Into the Clouds – Rongo (The “Cherrapunji of West Bengal”)

Leaving the plains behind, we drove back toward the hills to Rongo — a misty village near the Bhutan border. The air became cooler, waterfalls appeared spontaneously, and forests cloaked the winding roads with emerald splendor.

From Rongo, we continued deeper into the hills toward Latpanchar, a hidden gem in the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary region.

The drive from Rongo to Latpanchar was short but incredibly scenic:
Dense forest roads
Tea gardens blending into mountain slopes
Dramatic valley views at every turn
Latpanchar is a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers. It’s especially famous for the rare Rufous-necked Hornbill. The village is quiet, raw, and beautifully untouched by mass tourism.
