DIY How To Build A Simple Step Stool!!



In this weeks edition of BS with AJ I show you how to build a simple step stool! Its a simple and very handy project!
For this weeks project I decided to use pine, its a soft wood and its also very light, but as long as you brace it right it will hold up for a long time!
The first step to build this simple step stool is to cut the two sides, I started by taking a piece of pine and cutting one end at a 15 degree angle. Then I measured from the top over 7 1/2 inches (19cm) Now you will need to set up your saw at a 15 degree angle the opposite direction and cut the line you just marked. Once you have done this you will simply flip the board over as shown in the video and do the exact same thing again. These two pieces will be your end pieces.
I decided to make this step stool 18 inches (45.75cm) wide so I cut the top board down to 18 inches (45.75 cm) long by 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) wide, the width just happened to be the width of the board I was using, you can make it what ever width you like.
Next you need to cut down the 4 outer braces. I made mine 2 inches (5 cm) wide by 18 inches (45.75 cm) long. You will need to bevel one corner of all the braces at a 15 degree angle to be sure every thing fits flush with the top step and the floor as well.
After we got all those piece cut we started to assemble the step stool using 1 1/4 inch (3.175 cm) wood screws we pre drilled the holes using a number 6 counter sinking bit to be sure all the screws were flush. First we attached the top to the two sides and then we attached the bottom braces followed by the top braces.
After assembly we decided we needed to put a little more bracing since it was made of pine. So we cut down a board 16 5/16 inches (41.5 cm) long by 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) wide. Then we ripped the board in half at a 15 degree angle, we did this so it would sit flush against the bottom braces and would be flush with the base of the step stool. Then we cut another piece 16 5/16 inches ( 41.5cm) long by 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) wide and placed it in the center of the two side pieces as shown in the video, we placed it 2 inches (5 cm) from the bottom of the side pieces. These extra braces made if very sturdy and since it was pine it didn't add much weight at all.
I ran out of time so I didn't get to show you the sanding and painting of the step stool but I am sure you can manage that on your own lol.
