Both sections of the OS 35 wreck are now out of the water.

The Captain of the Port says the operation to raise the two sections of the hull was successful, with both parts now safely on top of the semi-submersible vessel that will soon take it to the Netherlands. The parts will now be further secured and 'sea fastened' ahead of the journey.

As expected, this operation has released some residues, including heavy oil. John Ghio says most of this has been contained within the protective boom around the vessel, with work ongoing to clear the resulting sheening outside the boom section.

Once this has been removed, the Government highlights that there will be no further risk of residue leaking, as the hull sections are out of the water.

Surveys of the seabed have started today to make sure the site is completely clear. Number Six says the operation will draw to a close once this is concluded. The public are being asked to stay away from the site and the preventative booms on the Eastside.

Mr Ghio says the operation is a testament to the hard work and detailed planning that has been integral to the wreck removal operation throughout.

Minister for the Port Vijay Daryanani says he's delighted we have reached this milestone.
