Consistent with the government’s relentless anti-corruption campaign, the CEZA Board made a decision to scuttle and destroy a total of 855 used vehicles, among the luxury cars, that had been shipped through Port Irene, in defiance of government ban of their importation. This will send out the message that CEZA does not, and will never, again tolerate or condone or encourage smuggling or wrongdoing of any kind at the Freeport.
The First Cagayan Leisure and Resort Corporation (FCLRC), which is the congnee of fourteen luxury vehicles, abandoned said articles to the full discretion of CEZA for its disposition. Thus the decision of the Board of Directors became final and executor and the written Notice of Condemnation has been furnished to FCLRC and scheduled the public destruction of the fourteen contraband vehicles on March 14,2018 to be witnessed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
On the other hand, FENIX (CEZA) Internation Inc. (FENIX), Appealed the decision before the CEZA Board of Directors on February 27, 2018, involving eight hundred forty-one (841) motor Vehicles including eight units of big motorcycles. But on March 12, 2018, FENIX submitted to CEZA the withdrawal of its appeal of the CEZA board of decision, thereby allowing CEZA to perform its duty and final disposition, under the law, over the said vehicles.
The fourteen contraband vehicles to be condemned through public destruction includes: 1 PORCHE 911 GT3, 1 MASERATI QUATTRO PORTE, 1 BMW ALPINA B12, 1 BMW Z1, 1 OPEL MANTA, 1 RENAULT R5 AND 8 MERCEDES BENZ.
