Today on I Hear Voices, Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano sit down with A.J. Beckles AKA Takemichi Hanagaki AKA Musashi AKA Chocolove McDonell (Joco).

In this episode, A.J. details his winding journey of discovering VO, pursuing it as a career to now voicing main characters in multiple anime series.

Although new to the industry, A.J. has been passionately putting in the work for years to find representation, book jobs, and uplift fellow voice actors. A.J. shows how the hybrid model that the industry adopted during the pandemic opened up more opportunities to take workshops and receive auditions inquiries. A.J.’s faith in his talent allowed him to experiment with connecting with the right people who could support him as he continues to build his career.

We LOVED hearing A.J.’s journey and believe this is an excellent episode to engage in if you are interested in becoming a professional voice-over artist.

Welcome to the official Christy Carlson Romano YouTube channel! Christy has been a working actress and singer since she was 6 years old. She moved to Los Angeles with her mother when she was 14 to star in the Disney Channel franchise, Even Stevens as Ren Stevens alongside Shia LaBeouf. Christy enjoyed many years with Disney gaining an Emmy nomination for her voice work as Kim Possible and starring on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast. She went on to balance her college career at Barnard College, Columbia University with filming movies for ABC Family including: ‘Campus Confidential’, ‘Taking Five’, ‘The Cutting Edge 2: Going for the Gold’, and ‘The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream’. Christy returned to Broadway in her mid twenties and learned to be a puppeteer in the Tony-Award winning ‘Avenue Q’. Christy was married to her husband on New Years Eve , 2013 in Banff, Canada after having met in a screenwriting class in college. She became impassioned with directing and made her debut in Lionsgate’s “Christmas All Over Again”. While she still works as an actress, she enjoys living in Austin, Texas with her husband, Brendan Rooney, and daughters, Isabella and Sophia.

About Will Friedle:

Will Friedle’s extensive career has spanned three decades in sitcoms, movies, animated series and videogames. He has brought to life roles as diverse as the iconic underachieving older brother Eric Matthews on the classic TV sitcom Boy Meets World and the Batman of the future in Batman Beyond. He can currently be heard in roles on DC Super Hero Girls, Big Hero 6 and numerous other animated projects.

Will began his career in 1986 on stage and in numerous commercials. In 1988 he started as a co-host for Nickelodeon’s Don’t Just Sit There which lasted for three seasons. From 1993-2000, he took Eric Matthews from high school through college on the smash it Boy Meets World. During filming Boy, Will also starred in many classic movies.

Will is also a prolific VO actor having done hundreds of animated projects over his almost 30 year career in animation. Starting in the mid-nineties he took up the mantle of Batman for a new generation in the now iconic Batman Beyond.
