00:15 Bare Bellied Hedgehog
Also known as the Madras hedgehog is found in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and South East of India. They are insectivorous and a nocturnal species and are considered to be very rare. Not much is currently known about this species. They reach sexual maturity in about 10 months and gives birth to 4-6 young ones.

00:47 Brandt’s Hedgehog
A desert species having distinctively large ears, dark body and 3 layers of skin found in West India and deccan regions of South India. They look similar to Indian Long Eared Hedgehog but are a much faster runner, due to their lighter needle protection. If threatened they curl up in a ball, and can also use a “jumping” action to surprise attackers.

Face is dark masked with a white top, predominantly brown with a few lighter shades of brown. They mainly prefer sandy desert areas and are found in West India and in the deccan regions of South India. They have a stocky body with short head, long snout, dark eyes, and relatively large ears. Legs are gray-brown with 5 claws.

Have well developed senses because of their large ears, eyes and whiskers near snout. They are commonly found in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. They are notable for their mating ritual involving "dancing" around females for several days before mating.
