What is the story behind the Mandalorian mask worn by Darth Revan?

Believe it or not, it was initially one of honor.

Ten years before Revan donned the mask, it belonged to a Mandalorian woman who followed Cassus Fett into battle where they defeated the Cathar people. In her attempt to dissuade Fett from executing the remaining Cathar, she wound up dying alongside the natives in a brutal genocide.

Revan found the mask on the shores of Cather, evidence of the Cathar species' genocide. He swore to wear the mask until the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders were vanquished.

After a year of fighting Mandalorians, the Jedi led by Revan successfully defended the Republic and defeated their enemy, but at great cost to Revan who fell to the dark side with his friend Malak after the final battle on Malachor V.

Upon declaring himself the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Revan continued to wear the iconic mask until his capture by the Jedi Order and Republic forces led by Bastilla Shan in 3957 BBY.
