When British Railways began withdrawing steam engines, many were sent to Dai Woodham of Woodham Bros. Scrapyard. Infamously known as Barry Island Scrap Yard due to its location in Barry, South Wales. Dai ended up with nearly 300 steam engines, he didn't cut them up, instead they were sold at scrap value to preservationists looking to preserve steam engines. Very engines were cut up when Dai Wooham ran low on railway wagons to cut up. In The end 213 steam engines were saved from the cutters torch.
