Welcome to my channel Power of knowledge academy. In this video you will learn about tetanus disease its pathophysiology and treatment. Here is the brief information that what will you learn in this video. Tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. When these bacteria enter the body, they produce a toxin that causes painful muscle contractions. Another name for tetanus is “lockjaw”. It often causes a person’s neck and jaw muscles to lock, making it hard to open the mouth or swallow. Symptoms of tetanus: - Lockjaw or Trismus - Opistotonus - Dysphagia - Respiratory problems Pathophysiology of Tetanus: Tetanus toxin is taken up into terminals of lower motor neurons and transported axonally to the spinal cord and/or brainstem. Here the toxin moves trans-synaptically into inhibitory nerve terminals, where vesicular release of inhibitory neurotransmitters becomes blocked, leading to disinhibition of lower motor neurons. Treatment of Tetanus: - Wound washing - Antibiotics - Vaccination (Tetanus toxoid) - Botolinum Toxin #tetany #Tetanus #Lockjaw #TetanusVaccine #WoundCare #Immunization #TetanusPrevention #Vaccination #TetanusToxoid #InfectiousDiseases #HealthProtection
