On July 26th, 2024 I got word that Grain Train 46A to Ayer, MA would have 2 BNSF locomotives trailing, so on July 28th, 2024 me and ‪@stoneybrookrailroadvids2736‬ and other friends went to Ayer for the day. The first train I saw was MBTA Inbound 2404 at the station with CTC-5 number 1810 leading towards Boston. After that, I got word that 46A was tied down at North Leominster Station so I drove over there. It was stopped just before the outbound platform so we got some photos. We also noticed a new crew that got on the train so we knew that the grain train would be leaving shortly. MBTA Outbound 2408 came through with GP40MC 1139 leading towards Wachusett. Just after the outbound cleared, 46A had the ok to go. The consist on the train was NS SD60E number 6952 leading, BNSF ES44C4 number 7090, BNSF ES44C4 8365, and BERX 7541. It notched up and headed right to Ayer. After about 10 cars passed by, I left and drove to Shirley to see them again. About 10 minutes after I left, 265 went through Leominster so missed that train. I waited about 10 minutes in Shirley before 46A came through. It had a nice horn as it went by with track speed. I saw it once again at Groton Harvard Road in Ayer. I then drove to Ayer station. There, the train moved its cars into Moores so it could store half of its train there. They would take the other half to Ardent Mills. So for about an hour they moved the grain cars around Ayer station. Just before they could head east to Ardent Mills, they had to wye there power so they could have the proper locomotive leading. But the cool thing about wyeing the power is that on the other end of the consist was BNSF ES44C4 number 7090 leading long hood forward! It came through the east wye so it could turn its power back around. Just before the train could leave for Ardent Mills, MBTA Outbound 2405 cleared with GP40MC number 1126 leading. 46A was now in the clear so they headed east shortly after. I quickly drove to the Willows in Ayer to see them again, this time with BERX number 7541 leading with a alright horn. After that, I went to Wagon Wheel to watch them turn there train around. The power ended up going on the loop track into the mill and I got a nice photo of the power. After that, there wasn't anymore good trains that were coming through so I decided to end my day there as I had an awesome day out on the rails!
