India signed a 10-year agreement with Iran on Monday to develop and manage the Chabahar port, marking a pivotal development in bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Chabahar port, situated on Iran's south-eastern coast along the Gulf of Oman, has been a focal point of India's efforts to bolster trade links with Iran, Afghanistan, and central Asian countries.

"Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal visited Chabahar, Iran on 13 May 2024 to witness the signing ceremony of Long-term Main Contract for the development of Shahid Beheshti Port Terminal, Chabahar. The contract was signed between India Port Global Limited (IPGL) and Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of Iran," said an official press releae.
