The 2024 Paris Olympics are now over, but we can still learn about the ancient tradition that inspired our modern competitions. The ancient Olympics were a sporting event in the ancient Greek world that happened, like the modern games, every four years, and lasted for over a millennium. The games were not simply an athletic competition, but more importantly a religious festival. It was a festival dedicated to Zeus, the king of the gods in ancient Greek religion.
