Sandy was born at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. He attended the N.S.U. Early Childhood Development Center and preschool at David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie. Sandy began his elementary education at Nova Southeastern University in a program designed for learning challenged children. After 3 years, Sandy mainstreamed to Sagemont School in Weston, Florida. He soon became a well known student for his smile, personality and creative successes. Sandy earned the Sagemont School "Art Award" in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. In his early teens, he spent his summers in the Laurentian Mountains at Camp High Point, Camp Maromac and the Y Country Camp. Sandy participated in the Indian Guides at the Hollywood YMCA, hebrew school classes at Temple Sinai, and local art classes in his neighborhood.
When he entered High School at the University School of N.S.U., his creative interest became video production. This led to numerous media awards including an Academy of Arts and Sciences Student Emmy Award for "Outstanding Contributions in Media," the TV III "Editors Award," the Senior Award for "Excellence in Media," and the National Student Television Awards for Technical Achievement and for Craft Achievement. His involvement spread to hosting the school's morning broadcast program, The Sun Weekly Review, acting in the school's extraordinary theatre productions, and representing the U-School Suns as the mascot known as 'Ray'. During High School he received numerous recognitions including winning the Harry Narkes Award for the Most Improved Student two years in a row, the Superlative of most spirited, and nominations for the Silver Knight Award and a Cappie Theatre Award. He was an excellent student as well, receiving Director's Honor Roll status all four years of High School.
In 2008, Sandy was accepted to the University of Southern California's most prestigious School of Cinematic Arts, majoring in cinema-television production. As a freshman, Sandy was part of the team that won 'Best Comedy' at the U.S.C. competition for the Campus Movie Fest, The World's Largest Student Film Festival. Sandy became a member of the U.S.C. comedy improv group, "The Merry Men". In the fall of 2009, once again Sandy was part of a team that won 'Best Comedy' for U.S.C. Campus Movie Fest titled, "Commitment". This film went onto the Regional Competition where it was recognized as a top film and was submitted for the International Competition. We await the outcome of the competition.
His hundreds of friends and fans, far and wide, will readily attest to his loyalty, reliability and his positive energy, always seeking to make things just that much better when it counted.
The most important aspect of Sandy's life was his family: His brother Zack and he were an entertainment team to behold, having a deep and abiding mutual love and respect that transcended all bounds. His parents, Mimi and Scott, were his confidants and advisors.
Sandy's life tragically ended in Kern County, California, as a result of a head on automobile collision. He was a passenger in one of the vehicles. Sandy Blake Roberts leaves behind an incredibly close and loving family and innumerable friends who loved him dearly. His happiness, friendliness, creativity, humanity, and never-ending smile will be surely missed by all.
