Did you know that some American Oystercatchers not only breed in New Jersey, but spend their fall and winters here as well? Banded American Oystercatcher “J1” is a very special bird here in the Garden State. This bird was banded as a chick in 2005 at Stone Harbor Point and has returned to breed and winter at Stone Harbor Point each season over the last 19 years! There are over 250 resights of this bird in the banding database, making him one of the most well-known Oystercatchers in the mid-Atlantic.
