In June 1962, three inmates—Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris—orchestrated a daring escape from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, a maximum-security prison on an island in San Francisco Bay. Over months, they meticulously chipped away at ventilation grates in their cells, concealed their work, and crafted dummy heads to fool guards. On the night of June 11, they crawled through holes they had widened, climbed to the roof, descended using pipes, and launched a makeshift raft made of raincoats. Despite an extensive search, they were never conclusively found, sparking enduring speculation about their fate and cementing their escape as one of the most audacious in history.
