Following a 5-day protest at his stores (and a direct confrontation with Owenscorp CEO), Rick Owens has officially announced he will stop producing fur or using it in further collections. This is a big move for the brand, though it does bring into question whether this was already the trajectory for Rick's product line. The fashion industry in general has been making big strides towards reducing or outright eliminating the use of fur, and this is one more example. So why do we seem to have a knee-jerk reaction against it?

Obviously not everyone is displeased with the decision, but even I found myself questioning it, and I'm not someone who buys or participates in fur. I wanted to address that feeling and open it up for discussion, as well as highlight some problems with the fur trade and how I've come to my own resolution on the topic.
