Once we diagnose cirrhosis, people ask how long do I live and what are the chances of me dying because if liver related problems? There are different models of which we can predict the survival. There is a child-pugh scoring and then there is a mayo end stage liver disease scoring called as the mel score. These consider your clinical performance and your parameters like bilirubin and prothrombin time, creatinine and they give you a prediction. But generally if you look at it, of a person has got silent cirrhosis the there are a good chances of them living for 5 years or 10 years, but once the person starts developing jaundice or swelling or bleeding, then the average life expectancy comes down less than a year and that is the time we have to transplant the patient.
