UVB-76 a.k.a. The Buzzer, UZB-76, MDZhB, ZhUOZ and The Hummer is the name given to a famous numbers station that was believed to have been broadcasted from Russia. UVB-76 was first heard in the mid-1970s and used to use a beeping tone but was later replaced with a buzzing tone. UVB-76 is believed to have been ran by the Russian Armed Forces. Its transmitting area was eventually traced down located near Povarovo, Russia which is halfway between Zelenograd and Solnechnogorsk and kilometers (6.2 miles) northwest of Moscow, near the village Lozhki. At first the location and callsign were unknown until the first known voice message in 1997. The true function of UVB-76 is unknown but is strongly believed to transmit codes and orders to military personnel, along with the time at which they should be executed. On December 24, 1997 the first voice message of UVB-76 was heard the message read: Ya UVB-76, Ya UVB-76, 180 08 Bromal 74 27 99 14, Boris, Roman, Olga, Mikhail, Anna, Larisa, 7 4 2 7 9 9 1 4. From that message the station was identified as UVB-76. UVB-76 is still active and can be found on shortwave radio at 4625 kHz.

When heard, UVB-76 transmitted a buzzing tone 24/7 and on occasions a male voice was heard reading out a message, but on rare occasions it's a female.
